Authentication & Verification of Counterparties

It is often necessary to be very sure who one is dealing with.  This is not merely a matter of "know thy customer".  In the electronic world, your computer systems must be able to determine if the computer systems they are connecting to, and being connected from, belong to your trading partners or other authorised counterparties.  Authentication and verification techniques allow computer systems to determine with some degree of certainty that the two computers connecting belong to the parties they claim to represent.
